Brooklyn Antiquarian Book Fair
The 7th annual Brooklyn Antiquarian Book Fair will be hosted online this year with digital booths filled with rare books, prints, ephemera, photos and more offered by more than 200 dealers from around the world.
The book fair also features live webinars, including Messages from the Outside: An Introduction to Mediumistic Art hosted by Alessandro Keegan.
“Since before the time of ancient Greek oracles, it has been believed that there are some among us with the ability to hear voices of the dead, receive visions from the gods, or even become possessed by beings from another world. From time to time these mediums channel great works of art or literature given them by a supernatural force or intelligence from beyond. Writers and artists such as Pulitzer Prize winner James Merrill, Austin Osman Spare, and Hilma af Kilnt all claimed to have received their creations from channeled sources, for instance. This talk examines these and other artists and explores why mediumistic art continues to problematize academic narratives about art history and accepted notions about the source of human imagination.” - Alessandro Keegan
