Isabella Cuglievan "Spinning Seeds"
In this new body of work Cuglievan considers the flight of a helicopter seed--once released from a tree it spins as it falls to encourage dispersal.
Cuglievan creates a composition in which each painting arises from a central shape, “the seed” or origin. As the brushstrokes build out from the center, the artist pulls colors from the previous strokes, creating continuity and movement that guides the viewer's gaze. The symmetry that results from Cuglievan’s process is not an end in itself, but a way of moving through the surface.
