Uwe Henneken "Anamnesis"

In a video in the exhibition we see Uwe Henneken burning paintings on his farm in Denmark.
This is a part of his daily practice.
In Henneken’s work, his personal development, his spiritual path and creative expression are directly and visibly interwoven.
Since the beginning of his artistic practice, Uwe Henneken has followed a strong inner vision – to create images that have a holistic healing effect while being viewed.
After getting caught in the ‘intoxicating cloud of success’ earlier in his career, Henneken had a profound realization – the emotional mood during the creative process resonates with the viewer.
A work, created in depression, in search of confirmation, in a state of greed, anger, worry, envy or pride, resonates with this very state when viewed and, when looked at daily, even intensifies it.
From this insight, Uwe Henneken follows a meditative routine in the painting process.
He first quietens his mind to become aware of heavy energies and disturbing emotions, he then expresses them completely artistically and finally offers the resulting product to the transformative power of fire.
Thus purified and open to inspiration, archetypal images in a unique luminous colour palette emerge on Henneken’s canvases.
The butterfly as a symbol of transformation, or the cave, the sun and the mountain, all images deeply rooted in the collective human unconscious. An inner sense of knowing, of recognition arises in the viewer – ‘anamnesis’.
